Caden Shell

Peters Township • Goaltender • Sr.

Was 10-4-4 with a Class AAA-leading 2.16 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage. Also was effective in the playoffs, going 1-1 with a 1.91 goals-against average and a league-leading .944 save percentage. He stopped 68 of the 72 shots in the postseason, including all 36 in a first-round shutout against Butler. He opened the season 7-0-4.

The JV2 team lead by Eric Zalewski and David Brown defeated North Allegheny's JV2 team in Double Overtime.

Goals in the 3rd period by Parker Johnson (assist to Jared Lesniakowski) and Joshua Jones (assists to Joshson and Geoffrey Poon) tied the game and sent it into OT.

OT went back and forth as both teams had their opportunites to score.  Parker Johnson was awared a penalty shot but was denied by NA's goalie.

In the 2nd OT, Bryce Kowalczyk ended the game with an unassisted shot from the right side beating NA's goalie over the glove.

Goalie Nick Schneider turned away 42 shots in the victory, a number of which were during the OT periods.

Congratulations to the following Peters Hockey players.  They are members of the Pittsburgh Predators Bantam 01 AA team, coached by Brian Bush, Shawn Ferguson and Bill Wilbert.  That team won the season PAHL banner and the PA state championship and are moving on to play in the Tier 2 14U USA Hockey Nationals in Charlotte, North Carolina March 31-April 4.

The 8 Peters JV and MS players that are on the team are:

Additionally, Katie Wilbert will be playing in Tier II girls USA Hockey Nationals in Burlington, Vermont on the same dates. She is another Peters MS player and plays on the Steel City Selects 14U Girls team coached by Bill Wilbert.

With the win over Butler, the varsity team moves on to play North Allegheny.

Strong goaltending by Caden Shell (36 saves) and goals by Steve Rex (hat trick), Matt Amelio and Zack Gielarowski led the team to victory.   

The Indians next game is Wednesday March 9th at 6:45 at the RMU Island Sports Center versus #1 seed North Allegheny.
